Chip Pirrs is a songwriter and producer from Indianapolis now based in New York City, known for a sound that moves fluidly between alt-electronic, art-pop, and hip-hop without settling into any one of them. That restlessness has shaped his catalog from the ambient, texture-first world of A.S.M.R. through to 2025’s Places I’ve Left Myself, an album that traded atmosphere for confrontation – dark synths, raw vocals, and acoustic drums built to mimic trap rhythms, all in service of songs about memory, identity, and the parts of yourself you leave behind in different cities. That evolution continues on his new single, “Yellow From Green” (feat. Sarah High), out now – a first look at a full-length EP arriving this fall.
The Lead Up
Alternative electronic artist Chip Pirrs has always operated on the fringe—pulling from art rock, electronic minimalism, and hip-hop to craft a sound both genreless and deeply human. On his 2025 album Places I’ve Left Myself, Chip leaned fully into this hybrid approach, delivering a cinematic and emotionally raw collection that charts his personal evolution over five years.
Since ASMR, the breakout record that established him as a force in alt-pop, Chip has released five singles and worked with acclaimed artists including Clive Deamer (Radiohead, Portishead) and Ed Hale (Transcendence). On Places I’ve Left Myself’s standout track “This End Up,” Deamer mimics trap-style rhythms using an acoustic kit, giving the beat-driven production a gritty, organic edge—emblematic of the entire project: inventive, genre-bending, and unafraid to blur lines between analog and digital, past and present.
A native of Indianapolis now based in New York, Chip draws from everywhere he’s been—both physically and emotionally. Places I’ve Left Myself remains his most adventurous work to date: a stark, immersive body of songs built on haunting melodies, dark synth textures, and hip-hop-inspired drum programming.
